Starting up a Web 2.0 Company

Author: admin - Categories: General - Tags: , ,

This presentation is well worth watching – each slide is exactly 20 seconds long, so no doubt this would have been hard to deliver. Very funny!

Pierre Francois, Alexis’s alter-ego, talks about how to start, run and sell a web 2.0 startup in this satirical and engaging Pecha Kucha talk.

Electoral-vote.com Commentary on the continued Republican diatribe

Author: admin - Categories: General - Tags: , , ,

Here is an excerpt from an article on John McCain’s speech last night:

“McCain’s speech was about change but entirely devoid of what he wanted to change. It is clear he has seen the dozens of polls showing that 80% of the population thinks the country is on the wrong track. He used the word “change” 10 times. But he didn’t spell out what he wants to change from. Barack Obama is very clear when he says he wants to change from the dreadful policies of the Bush administration on war, taxes, health care, and much more. What exactly does McCain want to change from? It is odd to run against your own party, but maybe McCain can pull it off citing his “maverick” status. CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin called it one of the worst convention speechs he has ever heard. Pollster and analyst Bill Schneider has a good piece on the speech. He said McCain doesn’t have to show he is a military hero. “

Last night was one of the most baseless speeches I’ve heard in a long time, coupled with some of the worst oratory that makes George W. Bush’s public speaking ability seem brilliant.

The latest Electoral Vote prediction (given by an awesome new iPhone app called “Election 08″) is:

Obama: 319 / McCain: 206

“It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care. It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it.” Barack Obama

First impressions of Google Chrome

Author: admin - Categories: General, Reviews - Tags: , , , , , ,

I’ve been using Google Chrome for the past 30 minutes. For those of you who don’t know, Chrome is Google’s attempt to enter the Internet browser market aimed directly at competing with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. It’s no secret that Google wants to bury Microsoft and this is another step towards that goal.

My initial impression – it’s very intuitive and does everything you would expect from a web browser. One of the nicest features is the combined address bar / search bar feature. There is no longer a separate box for the URL and another box for searching.

Chrome will actually learn your surfing habits. For example, if you’re like me and use Amazon a lot, you probably go to www.amazon.com and then click on the Amazon search bar and perform a search. Now, with gears, all you have to do is go into your address bar, type amazon (even partial will work), click the “TAB” key and Chrome has learnt from your past browsing experience that you want to do a search within Amazon. This speeds things up enormously!

The other neat feature I’ve found is the “New Tab” feature. When you start up a new tab, instead of giving you a blank screen like other browsers, it shows you your most commonly used bookmarks and screenshots of your most commonly visited webpages.

If you want to try out Chrome, it’s available at:

Great quotes from a great speech

Author: admin - Categories: General - Tags: , , , ,

Barack Obama:

“If John McCain wants to have a debate about who has the temperament and judgment to serve as the next commander in chief, that’s a debate I’m willing to have”

“John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell — but he won’t even follow him to the cave where he lives!”

“It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care. It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it.”

“The record’s clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush 90% of the time. Senator McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush has been right more than 90% of the time? I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to take a 10% chance on change.”

… and a classic quote from Al Gore about McCain:

“The same policies all over again? Hey, I believe in recycling, but that’s ridiculous.”

Obama-Biden… Seriously???

Author: admin - Categories: General - Tags: , , , ,

I’m writing this from my iPhone so this will be short.

Am I the only one who’s initial reaction to Obama’s VP pick is… Obama what were you thinking?

Sure the guy has been around almost as long as McCain, but he is a loud mouth who said you weren’t ready to be President! I am so disappointed by this choice. Deleware only has 3 tiny electoral votes and is already a Democratic state. Biden’s Catholic, but I think you’re already more than Christian enough to cover your bases. The main thing he seems to add is a lot of old age. I hope the press will be as supportive to you as they have been to date.

Am I really the only one who feels like he just opened the gates wide open for a McCain victory in November?

How many days until January 20th?

Author: admin - Categories: General

This week I made donations to two candidates (technically I don’t think I’m meant to seeing I’m not a U.S. citizen, but oh well)…

1. Barack Obama
2. Hillary Clinton’s debt payoff

Yes yes, I know number 2 won’t get many rounds of applause, but somewhere out there in the US are 18 million people who would be happy for me…

And now for a classic:
